About Olena

Hi, I'm Olena Shyshkova, an oil painter based in Southern California. I’m inspired by the nature, rhythm and energy of the ocean, painting expressive seascapes, waves, landscapes, and florals that capture the emotion of a moment in nature.

My method combines direct observation of the California coastline with introspective observation and embodied practices.

Through movement research, including wave-based dance, I explore emotions as physical experience, translating rhythm, breath, and flow into painting.

I study how wind, currents, underwater formations, and coastal structures generate the movement of water, searching for parallels between natural forces and emotional dynamics. Rather than depicting the ocean itself, I investigate the invisible systems that shape its behavior and our emotional lives.

Through layered oil paint, expressive brushwork, and shifting textures, I translate these observations into a visual language of movement and energy. My work invites viewers to encounter the seascape as a reflection of their own inner landscape, offering a space to recognize emotional patterns and experience transformation as a continuous process of movement rather than a fixed destination.
